Plans to create a £135m housing estate with a hotel and business park were unveiled yesterday.
It would feature 194 detached family homes of three to five bedrooms and a fourstorey hotel, operated by De Vere, owner of Loch Lomond's Cameron House Hotel.
The development, on an 80 acre greenfield site at Darnley Mains, on Glasgow's south side, would be located by the new Dams to Darnley country park. An estimated 3500 permanent jobs would be created at the estate, with more than 200,000 sq ft of business space.
A bid for outline planning permission will be lodged this month, according to Combined Property Services (CPS), acting on behalf of the site's owner, Meridian Developments. Work at the site, which has been derelict for 12 years, is planned to begin early next year, with the first homes due to be available in spring 2008.
Gordon Wilson, managing director of CPS, said: "Our scheme will follow greenbelt rules, which means low-density layout, with lots of landscaping. Pathways will connect the estate to the country park."
Michael Kernaghan, councillor for Darnley, said: "The design fits into the general ambience of the area. This is not an industrial estate."
