Luxury Estate planned for South Glasgow
Deco style just does not date

A new showhome with interiors by TV design guru, John Amabile, has been unveiled at Cala’s Canniesburn development in Bearsden. Inspired by the art deco style style of the development, John has created a stunning look for the showhome.
John has worked his interior magic on two rooms within the townhouse showhome – the spacious drawing room and the master bedroom, both of which extend the full width of the house.
The generously proportioned first floor drawing room has plenty of delightful, eye-catching art deco references. Striking metallics, stripes and geometric patterns contrast with opulent fabrics including sumptuous silks and wall-to-wall voile, and these, along with the tones of grey and beige add warmth and a contemporary edge to the room. Classic art deco motifs, including a Greek keystone design, compliment low slung 1920s steamer chairs and sandblasted glass furniture. John has introduced a feature wall with an Acanthus leaf pattern which echoes the leafy and elevated spot which the Canniesburn development occupies.
The same successful design mix transforms the second floor master bedroom into a soothing retreat. Metallic, floral print wallpaper combines with a warm beige colour theme and an individually styled headboard featuring Venetian glass, velvet and a fleur-de-lis motif to make this the most beguiling of boudoirs. The successful marriage of art deco touches and floral design weaves throughout all the rooms of the 1848-square foot property.
The highlight of the ground floor is the designer kitchen which opens out into a flexible family room which comfortably accommodates sofa, coffee table and chairs overlooking the rear garden.
In addition to the magnificent drawing room, the second floor also features a study, or fifth bedroom while, next door, the third bedroom takes its inspiration from the art nouveau movement. Floral and metallic patterns are complemented by a feature wall of soft and shiny iridescent colours and dark wood and leather furniture.
The family bathroom and en-suites feature metallic stripes and deep brown crushed effect wallpaper which has a delicious appearance which John likens to “melted hot chocolate with crushed marshmallow on top”. In addition to the master bedroom, the third floor is home to the second and fourth bedrooms and each has an individual story to tell.
In the second bedroom, the oriental influences which imbue so much art deco design, are playfully introduced. Beautiful walnut furniture, raw silks and a quilted throw coupled with soft lemon, black and grey tones create a very stylish and atmospheric room. In the other, an East meets West inspired theme features soft beige and leaf block print wallpaper.
Altogether, John’s interior design successfully captures the essence of elegance and luxury of the townhouses at Canniesburn and creates a home which is both vibrant and sophisticated. In addition to the accommodation described above, all the townhouses benefit from integral garages and are located on a quiet cul-de-sac. With plenty of floor space and a private toddler’s play area close at hand, they would make ideal homes for growing families.
Prices at Canniesburn start at £172,000. A range of incentives are available on selected plots for early entry. The showhomes and marketing suite are open daily, from 11am to 5.30pm.
